Why we often fail easily when we start a new habit...

Hi Reader

It's often thought that the number one reason we so easily break new habits is that we have very little will power.

Well I'm here to tell you that this is not entirely true.

The main reason so many of us struggle to keep new habits or break existing habits is because of the all or nothing approach.

I often hear clients saying:

'I'm giving up alcohol'

'I'm cutting out all sugary/fatty foods'

'I'm going to the gym 4 times a week'

All with good intentions. But not setting themselves up to win.

Self-efficacy - our belief in our ability to achieve something - plays a huge role in how likely we are to actually change our behaviour.

This is why, when trying to create a new habit, we need to start small and make the initial goal so achievable it's almost laughable.

Yes, this may not be the fastest way to create change - but it is the most effective.

Over the last 10 years, I've learnt this from the likes of Narsia Norman, James Clear ad Dr Gina Cleo. And I've been fascinated by it.

Want to know how to approach habits in a way that actually sets you up for success?

We'll be going through this step by step in a practical workshop coming up on 25 June in Cronulla.

If you can relate to this -

  • You fall off the wagon too easily
  • You have goals in mind but find getting started the hardest part
  • You feel overwhelmed
  • You miss the structure and routine you used to have
  • You know some self-care would be good for you, but don't know where to start

...then this is for you.

And because you didn't do ALL of it, you felt like you'd failed. So you stopped completely. If this sounds familiar - know that you are in good company! The problem isn't that you have no...

Mr Simon Kennedy MP Visits Mighty Mums The visit was part of a national MumSafe campaign that I'm proud to be involved in. As a MumSafe trainer, I'm one of many trainers across Australia...
